​Vice Chancellor Message

It gives me immense pleasure to invite you all to the Official Website of the National Institute of Ayurveda in order to know more about the varied activities of this apex Institute of the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.

This Institute was established on 7-2-1976 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India as an apex Institute for promoting the growth and development of Ayurveda as a model Institute, for evolving high standards of teaching, training, research and patient care and also to invoke scientific outlook to the knowledge of Ayurvedic System of Medicine. The Institute is first of its kind in India having a national character and international repute with the following Aims and Objectives: to promote the Growth and Development of Ayurveda, to produce Graduates and Post- Graduates in all Branches of Ayurveda, to conduct Research on various aspects of Ayurveda, to provide Medical Care through Ayurvedic Systems of Medicine to the suffering humanity, to provide and assist in providing service and facilities of highest order for Research, Evolution, Training, Consultation and Guidance to Ayurvedic System of Medicine and to conduct Experiments and develop Patterns of Teaching Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate Education in all branches of Ayurveda.

The Institute is presently imparting the Graduate Course of BAMS, the Post Graduate Course of MD/MS(Ay.), Regular Fellowship Program leading to the award of Ph.D.(Ay.), a Diploma Course in AYUSH Nursing and Pharmacy, a Panchakarma Attendant Training Course and also Short-Term Courses for Foreign Medical Doctors and Medical Professionals. It has a 357 Bedded Hospital with Deluxe and Cottage Wards. There are nearly a dozen Specialty Clinics, Centres of Excellence for various diseases, a Satellite Hospital, a Separate Panchakarma Unit etc. More details on these activities are available in the Website at the respective links.

We are also in the process of developing a 8 hectres of land for a unique and model Herbal Garden. Work is in progress to launch a National Repository for Crude Drugs. Various Short- Term and Long-Term Courses for Foreign Medical Doctors and Medical Professionals, Training to Sri Lankan Post-Graduate Scholars of Ayurveda, Introducing more PG Courses as per CCIM Guidelines, Starting Regular Fellowship Programs i.e. Ph.D.(Ay.) in the remaining Subjects, launching PG Diploma Course in various Subjects, Short-Term Courses for Panchakarma Technicians, Introducing various Best Practices available in various parts of the country, Accreditation of our Hospitals with NABH, Quality Council of India, etc. are in pipeline and are some of our priority areas for the coming years.

The Institute is closely and actively participating in various academic, research and patient care activities of the Ministry of AYUSH for the overall development of Ayurveda not only in the country but for its globalization also. I am happy to inform that the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India is extending its full financial and other supports for the enrichment and progress of the Institute in all its spheres. We will not leave any stone unturned in achieving various goals of the Institute and that of Ministry of AYUSH for the welfare of mankind and propagation and globalization of Ayurveda. We have a very dedicated and highly qualified Faculty Members with a number of good supporting staff in different categories who are put together in our march towards achieving various goals.
